MS Learn Online is the National MS Society’s online educational webcast series. This video, recorded in early June, 2010, features Kate Milliken (a woman living with MS) and Jerry Wolinsky, MD. Dr. Wolinsky describes the hypothesis of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) put forth by Dr. Paolo Zamboni from the University of Ferrara in Italy and what we need to know to better understand it. Studies being funded by the National MS Society and the MS Society of Canada are underway to carry out significant steps needed to confirm the phenomenon originally described by Dr. Zamboni and resolve the questions raised by him and others as to whether CCSVI is a cause of MS or related to MS in some other manner. Dr. Wolinsky and a team representing researchers from diverse specialties at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston are among those grantees These studies will also resolve conflicting data from previous research, such as how frequently CCSVI occurs in MS, and how often it occurs in people who do not have MS. If blockages are found, the findings will speed the way to determining whether therapeutic trials to correct them will be helpful in improving or altering MS disease process. Adding clarity to the relationship between CCSVI and MS is essential in assisting people with MS secure any treatment they may consider. Dr. Wolinsky, I just wanted to let you know that you make a pretty significan error when discussing Dr. Zivadinov’s (Dr. Z’s) research. You said that Dr. Z’s results show a significant discrepency to Dr. Zamboni’s original results. This is true, however, even Dr. Z has gone on record to explain that those early results were due to his team using a different testing method for CCSVI – whereby Dr. Z used MRV originally and Dr. Zamboni used Doppler Ultrasound.
(con`t) Dr. Z goes on record within his own results to make sure that folks know that the discrepency could come from the different equipment used in his study. This is a point that the NMSS has used repeatedly to discredit the theory and is false.
Just what pharm drug were you on whenn making this completely biased video…your research? was based on what? Pharm pay outs?
When someone walking with a cane with difficulty participates in a 6 mile run a few months later after CCSVI treatment, you ignore this. You have neurologists doing research into the human vascular system? WTF
In order for you to believe that CCSVI is effective, it must be proven that CCSVI causes MS and that the treatment cure it once and for all. An effective treatment is of no value to you?

I can tell you all – that my friend had the Liberation Treatment done – 2 DAYS LATER her arm/hand moved as normal after almost 8 years of being frozen as are her legs – and as a direct result of the ballon treatment. What is important to know is that everyone is different! So even if 10 or 20 per cent of sufferers have a good result this is of course worth trying. What confuses me is why are doctors so jealous of one another to the point of not wanting to support Zamboni’s hypothesis?

I was diagnosed with MS back in 1983.Recently I came across ccsviclinic.ca. They are screening in Fargo, ND. Called (404)461-9560 and spoke to Nurse Lisa. Their Liberation Package includes pre-op video consultation with their doctors, flight costs, visas, accommodation within their hospital premises. It’s disgusting that the NMSS is so set against finding a real treatment for this awful disease.The drugs that have been forced on us for years are more dangerous than this procedure for CCSVI. I personally don’t think that the NMSS has an right to decide what treatments pwMS should or shouldn’t get, just like they have no right to say what other underlying disease pwMS should or shouldn’t get treated.What is the NMSS stand on treating people with diabetes? None! Because it’s not their business!
